dEUS, the first 'alternative' Belgian band signed to a major record label, with current and ex-members in many other 'alternative' Belgian bands, came together in 1991 as a covers band and didn't record their first single until 1993, entitled 'Zea' (a play on the word Dea meaning goddess). They have had many members, with Tom Barman holding the fort for 9 years.

In 1993, they released 'Worst Case Scenario' onto the unsuspecting Belgians of yore. In 1994 the band got a deal with UK record label Island Records, and the same year they were nominated for 'MTV Best Breakthrough Band'. A string of some of the best avant-garde songs on the next releases followed: The mail-order only (until quite recently) 'My sister=my clock' (recorded in 5 days and edited in 6 hours) which was created like a movie and consisted of many songs spliced into 1 continuous track in 1994; their second album (and my personal favourite) 'In A Bar, Under the Sea' in 1995, which had classics such as 'Fell off the Floor, Man', 'Supermarketsong', 'Roses', and the UK hit 'Little Arithmetics'; and finally 'The Ideal Crash', which saw dEUS bridge their previously 'mad' songs with a more rock feel. Currently, they are working on private projects, but a new album is in the pipeline for 2001-2. <MooseBlaster>
